Still finding new places everyday...

It was a little overcast today, but not raining and quite pleasant out.  I decided to go on an adventure with the kids to an off-leash dog park we've never been to.  I very seldom venture North...so chose that as our destination of the day!

We traveled up Hwy 99 to Everett, Washington.  11.2 miles from our doorstep to Howarth Park.  This park has a long section of off-leash dog park right on the Puget Sound.  Exactly where Hank and Grace wanted to go!

We were rather alone on the beach, probably due to the gray skies.  All the better for us!  I got a boat load of beach glass and the kids swam till they dropped.

Gray skies won't stop us from swimmin' !!!!

Beach Glass!!  The blue one was the find of the day!!!

The water was calm and inviting!  If it had been just a tinge warmer, I may have had to dip the ole' tooties in.  Maybe later this summer!!

Enjoy the pics.  A few have some effects from Instagram.  Follow me @katemeyer

Spittin' clams!!

Hello all!

Matt and I took the kids to the Edmonds Dog Park yesterday to get some fresh ocean air.  While we were there we saw something I have never seen before.  The tide was really low and we saw geoduck clams spitting.  (pronounced gooey-duck)  Watch the rocky ground closely to see the little spurts of water shooting into the air!

Enjoy the video!

Sneak Peeks and Twin Peaks...

Hello all!  Wow, it's been a long while since I've put up a post!

Things have been so wonderful and busy here in Washington, the past few months.  We have recently just entered the "Seattle Summer!!"  Which has resulted in very little indoor time.  It has been 60's-70's, clear and beautiful during the day and about mid-50's and pleasantly chilly at night...who could ask for anything more?!

We've had many visitors and many new adventures.  Several posts are in the works!!

But, because I do feel badly not having posted anything lately....I'll give you a sneak peek, plus some sweet shots from our hike to Little Si this past weekend with our roommate, Brian Busken...

Sneak Peeks

Claire came to visit!!!

Mom and Dad came to visit!!!

Many more pictures and stories to come!!!

Little Si and Snoqualmie Falls

Last weekend we hiked to the top of Little Si in North Bend, WA.  It's in the same town where the TV show, Twin Peaks was filmed.  After our hike we made a stop at Snoqualmie Falls, a famous waterfall that can be seen in the beginning credits of the show...

It was an overcast day and surprisingly humid, but the temps were nice and cool!  The clouds made for some awesome looking photos!!

From the top!

This is one of my favorites...I love the low cloud cover

We are hiking fools out here!

Here are some pics from the falls.  It was breathtaking!

Please enjoy the following videos of both the intro to Twin Peaks (for those die hard fans of the early 90's drama starring Kyle MacLachlan)...and the video I took of the falls...

Twin Peaks Intro--the waterfall is about 1:40 in:

Camping on the Olympic Peninsula

The weekend of April 14th - 15th the four of us set out for our first camping trip since living in Washington!  We took the Kingston Ferry over to the Olympic Peninsula and then drove a few hours to Forks, WA.  Our campground was about 2 miles from the West Coast.  We got there pretty late, so we set up camp, got a GREAT outdoor night's sleep and then woke up ready to explore!

Great camp sites!

Look at that Big Man

We drove the two miles to the coast and ended up on Rialto Beach.  This was one of my favorite places we have been yet.  I didn't want to leave....

I love this picture of them.  They are so happy.

This island....it's MINE
The beach here is so different than anything I have seen before.  There is no sand, it's just very smooth rocks.  The most interesting part is that the size of the rocks change as you walk down the beach.  You will walk through a section of larger rocks...

Then, they would get smaller and smaller....

Then, it would get larger again.  So fascinating!   --  There were also HUGE pieces of drift wood.  We enjoyed climbing all over them!

Some of it looked petrified from the exposure to the elements over
unknown amounts of time

Such cool pieces of driftwood...
Look how small the rocks are in this picture.
Here it almost looks like sand.

More Rialto Beach treasures...

These are just rocks from the beach!

Not exactly sure what this is...

After we left the beach, we headed to another spot on the coast called La Push.  Forks and La Push have recently gained a lot of attention because of the Twilight saga....but don't worry the locals claimed we were safe...

Just a low vampire threat...whew!
I swore I was going to see One-Eyed Willie's boat heading out to sea
just beyond those rocks...
(If you don't get that reference...it's time to re-watch The Goonies)

On the way back home we stopped to have lunch on a river (I can't remember the name) and I found more of my favorite trees!!

Look at these colors!
You can see the contrast of the red soil and the clear blue water
Princess Grace was out exploring as per usual

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures!  I'm officially caught up on the blog...thank goodness!!  I will keep everyone posted on any new excursions!!!

A word from Ferris Bueller....and a frequent quote used by my cousin Mikey...

"Life moves pretty fast...if you don't stop and look around once and while...you could miss it."

Great advice to live by.
